Michelle and Johnny sit before a mural on McAbee Beach in Monterey Bay, California. John B. McAbee purchased this beach in the early 1900s. He pursued one of the first commercial ventures on Ocean View Avenue, the original name of Cannery Row. John McAbee rented boats, tents, and small cottages to seasonal tourists. In 1906 the Chinese Fishing Village at China Point was destroyed by a suspicious fire. McAbee leased the building and the beach to the Chinese. The mural depicts the Chinese fisherman of McAbee Beach. Today it is the only beach on Cannery Row that is available to the public.
