Johnny on Cypress Grove Trail

With binoculars in hand, Johnny stands among Monterey cypress on the shadowed north-facing slopes of Point Lobos State Natural Reserve in California. The trees are partly covered by a green algae named Trentapohlia, which acquires its bright orange hue from carotene.
